-------------------------------------------------------------------------------> POVERTY (n o u n .) 1 the condition or quality of being poor; indigence; need
2 deficiency in necessary properties
------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
» This holiday season I was able to experience a truly life changing moment. A few days before Christmas day a group of people, including myself, traveled to Mexico with a tremendous goal in mind. For almost a month this group of people fundraised, and gathered food, toys and blankets for poor families in Mexico. By poor I don’t mean some kid standing in the corner of the street ‘looking like he is poor.’ I mean extremely poor, these people have houses with no air conditioning , no electricity, no phone (things many people can’t even live without.)
» Anyways, I was able to see the homes of these people, I was truly impressed, and my heart broke completely. We entered a whole entire village where everybody lived just as bad. Houses with one blanket on the floor and that’s where are the family sleeps, and also, many families with no food, and extremely poor hygiene.
» Going on with my story, as we entered this village with all our cars (one which was a pickup and you could see the food in the back) kids raced to the car, running as fast as they could to see if they could score some food for the day. (even adults, ran to get some food..... can you imagine how much they really need this food?) It’s one of the saddest things you could ever see.
» Moments like these really make one value the life they have. I was able to talk with many families as I was there… A man and his wife were explaining to me how when it rains around there the whole family has to hold onto the roof because if not the wind will fully blow their home away. I heard many stories, which I am certain are in no comparison to any other ‘poor stories’ you have heard.
» This experience was truly heart breaking, and this is why I come to share my experience with you all. I know it is difficult for everybody to understand this, simply because you are not there, and your own eyes have not seen these people and their homes. But I want everybody to make an effort to: give a little to those in need, and also, value what you have; because im certain what we all have is a million times better than what these people have had or ever will have.
» Therefore, I leave you with this photo…. This is a young kid that was playing inside this wrecked car. He had absolutely no shoes on… I touched the metal at the bottom of the car, and it burnt my hand (the sun falls directly on this car.) how do you think this kids feet look like at the end of the day? also, this kid he ran to me, touched me on the back and said “Excuse me, lady, please, can I have some cans for me and my family. We have not eaten. And maybe even a toy for my Christmas, because I know Santa will not bring me anything.” I have many breathtaking pictures, some I will choose to share, but some I will keep to myself because they are rather disturbing.
Enjoy the photo, truly examine it… and dwell on it for a while too.
Great contrast and DOF, the story behind it is really touching, as well.
I've also seen parts of the world that where povery is unfortunately an everyday thing. Having been born to a family that isn't exactly rich, but far from poor, I had many wrong interpretations about the poor when I was young. Then I went to Mexico for the first time. Mexico City alone was downgraded from what I was used to, but when I went in the outskirts and farther than that, I saw what life was like out there. I saw that they were far from just being the "dirty people" I had imagined them to be. They were hard-working people who bust their asses more than anyone else just to make it by, and sometimes they can't. It's one thing to be on the street in your mid-fifties because you blew your life on drugs and made your family hate you, but it's something else entirely to work your whole life just to try to make something of it and feed your kids, and you just can't thanks to society, corruption, and so many other things. It doesen't help for fucking tourists to barge into a country just to see where they'll never be. When I was older and I went into the slums again, I gave out as much money as I could to people on the street. Some had enough dignity to not accept it. I hate to give out handouts, but it wasn't out of pity, it was out of respect. I know those that accepted wouldn't waste it. If only everyone knew the true value of money nowdays...
Man, you must be my soul mate! I feel the exact same way you do! When I was younger I also thought I had an idea of being 'poor' my family isn't the wealthiest family alive, but we are very incredibly far away from being poor. It's my trips to Mexico that have really given me an idea of what poverty is... but you know, some of these people that are poor they bust their asses just as you said.. But sometimes it's just too hard. Yeah, it is two different things to be on the street having had drug and addiction problems, than being on the street because of the corruption of the city that doesn't allow you to have a job good enough to be able to feed your family daily!
United States government sometimes really angers me... Due to the fact that they complain and complain that immigrants do us no good. I'm not saying that they are the best thing to our society... But there are thousands of people in the United States that are here and do absolutely nothing, they do not help our economy one bit, aside from buying their 'potatoes chips and their cable television' ... That's it ! These immigrants from Mexico come to work their asses off daily at a job that isn’t' very fun and enjoyable... Sometimes I understand the logic behind not having immigrants here, but at the same time... We need them... What would we be with no cooks in the kitchens, no maintenance people in the bathrooms, etc.....? These are jobs most Americans do not want to do (hence the fact most Mexicans are in those jobs) Why do we want to kick these people out if they are working hard only to send some little cash to their poor families back home in Mexico.
I could ramble on for ages about this subject, I feel very strongly about it. But I know some people will disagree and it'll cause problems.... But thank you kindly for your comment, and having understood! I appreciate it much so!
thank you for your constant support!
Happy New Year, I wish you the best! Keep this very smart mentality you have! You’ll go far... I’m certain!
